Course Overview:
This half day course will provide debate and understanding about the social skills which can and need to be developed within the classroom and through the curriculum.  We tend to think about social skills as about supporting interaction and relationships through play and on the playground, however, these interpersonal skills can and should be nurtured and developed equally during lesson times and around the school environment.  By doing so we support independence and communication skills, build confidence and see children grow in their mindset, their ability to reflect as learners and support each other.

• What social skills do we need to develop across the school day?
• How do we impact on children by the way we communicate with them?
• What skills need to be taught, encouraged and embedded in our curriculum planning?
• How do we support communication skills through the curriculum?
• How do help children to become positive, self-reflective learners?
• How do we help children to become more aware of their peers as learners?
• How do we create an environment and situations for pupils to become reflective and supportive of each other?

About Paul Cabb:
Paul has over 30 years of experience in education. Beginning his career as a primary school teacher, he was part of SLT’s and ran social/life skills interventions. A passion for SEND saw Paul complete a Master’s degree in education at the Central School of Speech of Drama as well as further post-graduate study into Autism and neurodiversity. Following twelve years as Social Communication Difficulties outreach advisor across primary, secondary, and specialist provisions for Bromley LEA, Paul set up an independent advisory service. His service: Social Eyes, provides individual pupil/student caseload strategy/ intervention advice, CPD training, voluntary services forums and family workshops in Bromley, Lewisham, Croydon, and Greenwich.
