Strategic SEN Planning for SENCOs, Deputy Heads and Headteachers

Course Overview:
How to integrate supporting SEN effectively into schools and how to plan for inclusion at the centre of your school’s development. Examination of the potential ramifications of the SEND Green Paper on SEND reforms. Support in action planning to turn intent into implementation to have impact.

Course Content:

  • Look at inclusion from the SEND Code of Practice, Ofsted Framework and school’s visions and values.
  • How to work in partnership with local authorities and other partner agencies.
  • Short, medium and long term planning to meet strategic intentions.
  • Linking evaluation with development to enhance inclusion and achievement.

About Sue Byron:
Sue has over 35 years of educational experience. She began her career as a primary school teacher and SENCo in London before moving on to found the Parent Partnership Scheme in Bromley. Sue returned to teaching as Teacher-in-Charge of a KS3/4 Assessment Unit and then Deputy Head Teacher of a KS4 PRU. From here she went on to lead the Bromley Primary Behaviour Service.  Sue then created and led the Behaviour Outreach Service for the Spring Partnership Trust. She has provided support to schools, children, families, local authorities and MATs.  Sue has strong communication skills and has formed many professional partnerships. She is solution focused and believes in the power of effective, trusting collaboration. Sue is skilled in facilitating schools to meet Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and has strong SEND knowledge and understanding.

About Adam Lowing:
Adam is an experienced leader with a record of successful organisational transformation who has led in a range of contexts including headships in two very different settings. He has supported, developed and challenged colleagues across many settings nationwide including primary, secondary and alternative provision. He has created partnerships with a wide range of MATs/local authorities, affiliated agencies, community organisations and commercial partners.
